What is a psychological assessment?
As an individual navigates the different stages of their life, they may experience emotional and psychological challenges associated with these transitions. Psychological assessments and therapy aim to assist individuals to identify strategies that address these challenges.
During an assessment, psychologists will collaborate with the individual, their caregivers and/or stakeholders to provide a thorough and accurate evaluation of the person’s current abilities and challenges. Assessments are tailored to the needs of the individual and can be used to inform therapeutic goals. Types of psychological assessments provided at Autism SA include:
- Adaptive behaviour assessments
- Cognitive assessments
- Psychoeducational assessments
Psychological assessments are tailored to the needs of the individual, and may include a report and referral for other services at Autism SA, to external support services, a GP or ongoing therapy.

How can I benefit from a psychological assessment?
Psychological assessments can provide valuable information for a client about their skills, strengths, and areas for development. Where assessments are conducted under NDIS funding, these assessments can inform therapy goals. Where assessments are conducted under fee for service, a diagnosis may be provided (if applicable).
How can I access the service?
Psychological assessments can be conducted at either of our clinics in Elizabeth or Tonsley.
