Autism SA, in consultation with Kari Dunn Buron and Mitzi Curtis the authors of the incredible 5 Point Scale, has developed a workshop that will explore this highly effective tool, providing guidance on how to successfully implement it. The Incredible 5-Point Scale is a visual tool that can be used to break abstract social and emotional concepts, into clear visual scales. These scales, which are colour coded and numbered, can then be used to support developing an understanding of concepts and provide a tool to teach skills within. The tool can be used to increase a person’s understanding of countless topics including volume, personal space, self-regulation, participation and so much more, and is appropriate to use across all ages.
Topics covered in this workshop:
• The philosophy behind the tool
• Looking at the range of resources and how to modify these to suit an individual
• How to use the tool for individuals, groups, classrooms and across whole sites (including school settings), and
• How to monitor, tweak and review the tool to ensure success.

Workshop Definitions
General Workshops are designed to give participants an introduction to understanding the autism spectrum and provides workshop participants with the knowledge of key strategies to support individuals in a range of settings.
In Focus Workshops are designed for participants who have a good, current understanding of autism and are looking for a more in-depth understanding relating to a particular area of the autism field. This greater knowledge in turn provides greater confidence in applying strategies to support individuals in this area. It is recommended that participants attend an Autism SA General Workshop prior to attending an In-Focus Workshop or Masterclass unless they have a good, current understanding of autism.
Masterclass Workshops are based on the concept that there is always more to learn. Masterclasses are short intensive workshops that are designed to provide participants who already have a sound current understanding of autism, with specific and extended content relating to a particular topic, strategy or program.
