Do you find yourself looking for ways to develop your child’s independence? Can they lose track of what they are doing or miss a step in a task? Visual schedules are an easy and effective way to increase independence, confidence and self-esteem. By providing information in a concrete visual way, individuals on the autism spectrum can refer back to the information on the visual schedule, which will support with executive functioning. This greater awareness of what is going to happen, in what order it will happen, and for how long it will happen, also reduces anxiety and repetitive questioning such as asking what the time is and what is going to occur next. During this workshop the presenter will guide participants through how to identify the right visual schedule for the individual that you support and will provide the fundamentals on how to set up and use a visual schedule that is effective in promoting independence.
