Support after receiving a new diagnosis
If you, your child or someone in your care has received a new diagnosis for autism, you will no doubt have many questions, especially if you have little or no previous experience of autism.
You might need guidance on what supports and services are available to people on the spectrum and their families.
The Autism SA My Pathways Team is here to provide advice and to assist you in navigating a pathway after you have received a diagnosis.
What happens next after an autism diagnosis?
Once you or your child have completed the multidisciplinary assessment process and received a formal diagnosis of autism, the My Pathways Team can contact you.
If you have agreed to have your diagnostic information shared with Autism SA, a Pathways Consultant will be in touch to arrange a Newly Diagnosed Support meeting, either online, over the phone or face to face.
This meeting will give you the opportunity to get answers to the many questions you are likely to have, further discuss your specific circumstances and needs, and find out more about the ways in which Autism SA can support you on your autism journey.
There is, however, no obligation to attend a Newly Diagnosed Support meeting. The services provided by My Pathways are also available to individuals and families who have received their diagnosis from another diagnostic assessment service provider, as well as those who have been assessed at Autism SA.

What support does the My Pathways Team provide?
Pathways Consultants provide non-clinical advice, guidance and support to individuals and families with a new autism diagnosis in order to help you navigate the most suitable pathway for your specific needs.
Together, you and your consultant will examine your current and ongoing desires, such as the range of supports that you can access, the benefits and appropriateness of different strategies or therapies, and the scope of the programs and services that are available to you.
